Tiber Camping Hostel, Rome
Rome is notoriously expensive even for hostellers. The one exception is Tiber Camping and the dorms/private rooms they provide. You are outside of the city which has its pluses and minuses. On the plus side, you are away from the frantic hustle and bustle on the downside, it takes about 30 minutes and 1 euro to get to Piazza de Popolo. This can be tricky if you want to stay out late (past midnight) in Rome. If you want a shuttle to get you back to the campgrounds rather than walking the 1-2km back, then you need to leave around 9:30ish.
It is a good option for backpackers as it doesn't seem to get filled up as quickly and it is very cheap (10 euros a night). I also gave a guy running the store on property a Tpunk sticker so look for it if you stay there
