Default Guadelupe Peak - Xmas Eve Hike

So, I'm out here in New Mexico on the border of Texas to spend Christmas with my parents. For those of you that don't know me, I have a goal of hiking the high point in all fifty states. So being this close to the highest point in Texas, Guadalupe Peak, I had to climb it. I camped out at the trail head on tuesday night. My little tent barely held up to the 60 to 70 mph winds that were threatening to tear it to shreds. i had to put four big rocks in each corner to keep it from blowing all over the place. Xmas eve morning i start out at dawn and climbed the peak in about five hours. here are some pictures:

solo. my parents thought i was crazy for hiking alone and camping out in a wind storm, but then again, they drive their car to the mailbox a block away. so hiking four and half miles straight up, seems crazy.

it was nice to have the time to hang out in such a beautiful place and take it all in.

Congrats, I really need to start hiking more, it's definitely a ton of fun and such an awesome feeling of accomplishment.

Some buddies of mine actually played hack-e-sac on that spot with the pyramid (said it was a bit difficult). I am a bit jealous. I have heard such good things about guadalupe peak.

i bet it's even better when it isn't so cold out. i'm not quite sure the wind ever dies down though, so i would imagine hack-e-sac would have been quite difficult indeed.

if you ever get close, i definitely recommend it. it's a great hike.
