How do I get to the Mayan Ruins?
So I just got the hook up on a free round trip to Mexico (Can you say Frequent Flyer Miles!). I want to go see the Mayan Ruins. I know they're scatter all over but I believe the big pyramids are in the Yucatan Penninsula.
So my question is Where Should I Fly Into? My first guess is Cancun but I'm not sure. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Also feel free to toss in any other "Must Sees" while I"m down there (I'm thinking 5 to 7 days).

There are ruins everywhere in Mexico. I think the three biggest draw cards would be Chichen Itza, Teotihuacan, and Palenque. Chichen Itza is near Cancun, Teotihuacan is near Mexico City, and Palenque is smack bang between the two.
I've been to Teotihuacan and Palenque. Teotihuacan is a big site, but its a bit too developed and restored for my likings. Palenque was very cool indeed, one of the best sites I've been to.

Yeah when I went I too went to Cancun, and then took a day trip to Chichen-Itza. There are places all over Cancun that will take you there. The place we went though took us on a bus and we stopped at a great place for lunch that had dancers, and we stopped to see these sweet waterfalls in a cave, as well as a Mayan market. They home make this liquor that you're supposed to sip but I tried it and took it like a shot because it was terrible! It was bright green. Oy.
It was an amazing trip though!

Pretty much what everyone else said above. I'm planning on hitting Tulum in December. If you have some time it may be worth taking a bus to Tikal in Guatemala or the many ruins in Belize.

I went to Chichen Itza and Tulum, and it was all good. We flew into Cancun. If you go to Chichen Itza, I would suggest going to a cenote that we went to. It was GORGEOUS.
It's called Ik Kil and it's really close to Chichen Itza.
Have fuuuun

Thanks all you guys (and gals) for the input. I'm getting excited to go (I love the thrill of a trip). I've got my ticket outa here mid october to Cancun for a week. I'm not much of a partier anymore so I probably won't do any of the clubs in Cancun but Chichen Itza, Tulum for sure and I'll check out the others you mentioned (Tikal, Ik kil, etc). And I really think I might try and go through Belize and Guatemala. Any idea how far away they are?
Also, on this map: http://www.luxury-haciendas.com/imag...insula-map.gif, what's that tan colored area on the east coast, next to the ROO of Quanata Roo?
