Itinerary #2
I posted an itinerary for my backpacking extravaganza and received comments about how it might be too much, or, plain and simple, badly planned. So, I went back and edited it with my best friend.
May 19-July 31
Arrive in London (5 days)
Brussels (4)
Amsterdam (4)
Berlin (5)
Prague (4)
Vienna (4)
Munich (3)
Bern (4)
Venice (5)
Naples (5)
Rome (5)
Marseille (4)
Barcelona (5)
Paris (5)
We're leaving one day for travel time in between each city, which we'll use to settle in the hostel and rest.
Is it still too much for beginners?
Also, can we choose the start date for the Eurorail pass?

I believe the start date of the europass starts the day it is first punched.

I don't know anything about the eurorail passes unfortunately, but I do like the sound of your trip next summer!! I don't believe that it's to much for a first trip, depending on your energy level of course.

Cut a day or 2 off Brussels and u can prob cut 4 days off Venice and add Budapest (3 nights minimum) in there between Prague and Vienna.
You have 6 months from the date of purchase to validate it. It must be validated before u get on that first train or I imagine they'll try to shake some fine out of you.

Seriously? I would definitely cut a day from Brussels, but Venice? I thought it was a definite must... I wanted to go to Budapest, but wasn't sure if we could pull it off.

Don't skip it! Most people say they need 1, max 2 nights in Venice. Spend the remaining nights in Budapest!

i spent 5 nights in venice...loved every moment of it. It was my 'relaxing' point, not much to really see but just soak up the atmosphere. I reckon if you want to spend longer cut 2 days off venice and MAYBE 1 day off Rome. I felt I had enough after 3 days there.
Otherwise I think it sounds amazing :-)

What kind of traveler are you? Do you need to seed all the sites? Do you wake up early in the morning and plan out every day with a list of things that you have to jam through? Or, do you wake up when you want and just start to wander and go where you feel sounds good, moment by moment? Or maybe a combination of the two?
If you jam through a lot of the sights/monuments/museums, then you'll be moving pretty fast through each city and you'll be able to shave a day or two from many of the cities on your list, giving you adequate time for Budapest or other cities not on your list.
Other than that, the list is looking pretty good and very doable .
