hi,

well, as for the difference between hostels and camping grounds, camping michelangelo in florence won a hostelworld award this year, out of 10,000 hostels. it might have had something to do with the cool bars, djs and other stuff, you can lose the thought of tree hugging hippies dancing round the campfire now, try swimming pools and jaccuzzis.
you can bring your tent, or opt for a bit more comfort in one of the cabins. the locations of campgrounds are pretty central too.

I went to the sports authority today, and I saw a tent that looked like some of the other tents I had been considering. I then noticed that it was 30$, does that mean its a peice of crap and will fall apart in 2 uses or its just a less well known brand and its cheaper?

Would you go with the cheaper tent or the more expensive one? They look the same and the expensive(150$) one is slightly bigger(only slightly).

Depends if you want it to last very long or if you just plan to use it for one trip. An tent is something you probably want to invest a decent amount of money in if you want it to last a long time.

My friend and I have almost no experience with tents, but we have two years untill our trip. So i figured we might want to buy the tent, try camping in our backyards and see how we like it and practice putting the tent together and taking it apart and repacking it small.

So we would have the tent for like a year with minimal use before we actually went on the trip which could last anywhere from 2-4 months.

if your hittinh the UK camp out in the scottish highlands for a bit youll love it

and the lake district of course

camping wise you dont always have to go to a campsite some places you can so get away with it jus have to be on the lookout

That looks easy to set up... although it looks too big to carry around on my trip...

I have researched tents till I'm blue in the face, and I still feel like I have no Idea what I am doing. lol. What does REI call this 8lb combo? I couldnt seem to find it online. We are planning on doing as much camping as possible on our trip (leaving may 1st 2009 SEA to W Europe) so we are going to need something pretty tough, as we are going to be using it off and on for at least a year. All these suggestions sound great, when we finally choose one and try it out we will post the results here.

when I rode up from florida I carried a tent, and i will be carrying a tent next weekend for a trip. it is worth the weight to me, for the privacy and the quiet.
