Space virgin and legitikick spent some time there. I'm sure they'll post here the next time they come on the boards, and if not, don't hesitate and send them a personal message.

Frankly I don't know how to reply to "hey, I want to go to India, what should I do there?" It's a freaking HUGE country, and extremely diverse to boot-- and everyone's taste is different. Besides that, India is absolutely NOT a "casual" tourist destination-- as I'm sure you learned on your first trip, you really have to WANT to go there, so you must have some sort of idea of things you are interested in. What did you like on your first trip, what did you not like? What exactly do you want to do? Be specific:

Mountains?
Beaches?
Desert?
Architecture (Muslim)?
Architecture (Hindu)?
Architecture (Jain)?
Architecture (Buddhist)?
Temples (which type)?
Archaeological ruins (which type)?
Big cities?
Small towns?
Chill atmosphere?
Crazy, hectic pace?
Countryside (ok-- this is most of the country)?
Restaurants/bars/night clubs?
Freaky weird shit (this is in most of the country as well)?

What I'm saying is that you'll have to give us a starting point.

Okay, given that then I'd say you should hit Mumbai for the big-city craving, Goa for the beaches, and for mountains you should head to either Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal (both are Himalayan states in India) or Nepal.

No idea where they started or stopped.. But taking a train route like on the Darjeeling Limited(movie) would be really fun.

Has anyone here been to Sri Lanka? Would you recommend going?

I have heard they have beautiful beaches there and beautiful country-side. I know there was a war there until not long ago and it wasn't the safest of all places. But now I think it should be fine again, or?

Would love to hear other peoples' experiences!
