Default Yellow Fever Vaccination Record - Take it or leave it?

I got vaccinated for Yellow Fever for my upcoming (2 weeks from tomorrow!!!!!!) trip to Argentina. The nurse said I should carry the documentation with my passport, but I don't really want to....

Anyone had this vaccination and been told any differently? Or have anything strong opinions either way?

Thanks, mushroom

P.S. I miss the stats on the recent posts

I think I had a yellow fever shot for when I went to China and I do not remember being told to cary the documentation in my passport however I personally would if thats what a professional reccomends. It could be that the Argentine customs wants proof you had these vaccinations and not carying it may result in a refusal of entry. If it were me, I might ask why they want you to carry it.

That's exactly it. Some countries will ask for proof you've had the vaccine, and without proof they'll either deport you, or force you to have another vaccine. Whether Argentina does this or not I have no idea, but better to be safe than sorry.

Ok, you're right. But my BF's doctor didn't say anything to him.

And my nurse said it was good to have so if I did get really sick, I would have proof of the vaccination.

But I guess since I paid for it, I should take it.

Thanks for the motivation guys.

I was over that way five years ago. They didn't ask for any proof of vaccination paper work to get into Argentina, but they did for Brazil. If you're going to check out Iguazu Falls while you're there (you definitely should), you will need to go into Brazil to see them all. To enter Brazil, you need to apply for a tourist visa (this is not something you can just get at the border), and part of that application is the yellow fever vaccination paper work. Well, that's how it was five years ago for an Australian anyway.

Regardless, I would definitely take the paper work with you. It's not like it's something big and heavy - it's just a piece of paper, and it may save you a huge amount of disappointment.

^ Agreed. I don't really know much about SA but when I was in Africa there were several countries I wouldn't have been able to enter without the vaccination and it would have been oh so sad...

Agreed with everyone else, take it, it doesn't take up much space. You most likely won't have an issue but I know when we were there, there was outbreaks up nearer iguazu, you never know if you may need it or not. Most likely not but better safe than sorry!
