Welcome to the boards Jan! It is good to have some Europeans on the forums. Perhaps you can give us a local's take on the Benelux region.
I deleted your post from the Australia forum since this one is more appropriate, but please feel free to continue posting in that (or any other) forum if you have questions or suggestions.
And naturally, Belgian beer recommendations are always, always welcome. I am a fan of Rochefort 8, Delerium Noel (at Christmas time), and a Flemish red whose name escapes me.

Belgian beers ...
Thanks Joey for letting me join the club
You are right : manu people just cross Belgium from a ==> b and skip some historic, artistic and nature jewels in our micro-nation.
esp. the port city of Antwerp has a lot of flavour nowadays with a youthful crowd + a vivid fashion, architecture, music, arty & party scene ;-)
As for the beers, this is national heritage indeed ; we have quite some local microbreweries always worth checking out, in the smaller towns. Ever heard about the monks in a town called Westvleteren ? They allegedly make the "best beer in the world", according to some intl. experts, it is called "Sixtus" and they refuse mass production, only producing enough to earn their living ...
hmm guessing about the Flemish red, is that a strong one or a sweet cherry beer ?
For the time being a virtual CHEERS
Take care
Jan
