I haven’t actually taken my trip yet, but lord knows I have been researching for it for ever. There are a couple of things I have come across that I haven’t seen anybody mention here.
Steripen- a compact uv light that purifies water. Kills almost everything. not exactly cheap but when compared to buying water... you do the math.
SteriPEN portable water purifier
Kariza wrap- kind like a sarong on steroids. they claim that you can wear it over a hundred different ways. makes skirt, shirt, dress, ect.... and they look great.
Kariza Wrap Skirts
SPOT transmitter- this thing is awesome. its a portable satellite device that can transmit your location to google maps every 10 minutes. plus a ton of other great features.
SPOT SATELLITE MESSENGER :: HOME PAGE
Mooncup- for the ladies, its a menstural cup. they last for a few years and theres no need to buy pads or tampons. not to mention theyre better for the enviroment.
Mooncup Menstrual Cup
If I think of any more I'll be sure to post them here. I had to post this under rustyandmandy (pah) because I dont have 15 posts yet under Manders.

No I totally understand, I think I already have a moderator helping me with it. But If I could merge the old account into Manders that would be awesome.

The SPOT looks pretty neat...This must use the same tech as an EPIRB (Emergency Personal Indicator Radio Beacon), which is used mostly on boats...but the EPIRB basically would have a government rescue put into action if you turned it on. So it's cool to see a more consumer friendly product that can be used in situations that are not just 'I am about to die come help'
I looked on their site and it only weighs 7.4 oz, which I assume doesn't include batteries. With the tracking mode on the battery only lasts 14 days though. If they would make a model that would send your location say...every 4 hours...that would probably increase the life by a ton and also still be useful. Or even just configurable settings from 10 minutes to 1 day interval.
It could be something people with nervous parents decide to use though.

Nervous parents, or people going into really risky places. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have a record of where you are and when if something happened.

All best part about this thread is if you did a once-over pack job, and are unsure if you forgot anything - after reading the thread again you'll remember.. haha

I would like to say thanks all of you, These things are necessary while we are traveling but there is one more thing which is most important that is travel insurance. It would be helpful if any bad happen comes during our trip so we should carry in account before going on travel.

I didn't think of until now. A Sharpie. I'm staying in lots of hostels and it would be nice to have sharpie for marking food, either claiming it, or announcing that it's up for grabs. Oh yeah, and don't bother trying to find hostels for portugal on the internet. The only place that I have been able to use it was Lagos. The Rising Cock hostel is pretty nice.

One thing I haven't noticed alot of in the lists of items taken while traveling is a lap top computer. In my home life, i'm on the cpu constently, definatly something Iuse alot, but i'm not to sure if I should take it to europe or not. It weighs 5.6 pounds (15" screen) plus the power cord is bulky. The entertainment value is obvious: movies, games, music, internet, download photos from the camera, email photos to make my friends jelous that they are stuck at home, the list goes on. But is it worth it? Takes up alot of space, and weight, and i'd be pretty pissed if something bad happened to it (it was definatly not cheap!). My backpack isn't that big (carry on size, barely). I've test packed it, it will fit, but still not sure if I should take it or not. Has anyone reading this taken a computer while traveling (for vacation, not work)? was it worth it or not? If i'm 1/2 way through the trip and deside it was a mistake to bring it, not like I can just throw it away, i'm stuck carring it all over europe.
Also, you guys have some pretty good lists going here, a few things I completely forgot about, now added to my list, thanks!

Packing
I have done a great deal of traveling and the key is to pack light. If you don't have it than you don't need it. Pack one or two at most pairs of multi purpose shoes and opt for layers over heavy heavy clothing. It takes up to much space in the bag.
