lonely planet is nice but tends to leave out that type of information. If your leaving in a week dont worry about it being crowded, its to early for high season. When you get to the airport there is plenty of information in the hotel reservations area, they even have phones that you can use to call the hostels/hotels. Most in that area will even come pick you up for a modest fee. You should be fine this time of year by just picking the best place from the airport.
Anybody from Brisbane have ideas?

Tinbilly Travellers, Brisbane, Australia The say they are near the Airtrain, which is the direct rail link to the airport.
Bunk, Brisbane, Australia Looks like these guys run a free shuttle to and from the airport
Reefos Brisbane, Brisbane, Australia These guys do a airport pick up as well.
As for how close they are, hard to tell, but i am not sure, with out paying a fortune at the airport Hilton how close your going to get, a free ride there is not to shabby. If you go one of these routes, make sure you contact the hostel to arrange the pick up.
Hope this helps some.

According to me there are lots of hotels in Brisbane that you can find. Brisbane is one of the finest city in the world. If you are planning to stay a week in Brisbane and can't get any hotel then go to airport authority that they manage a good hotel for you. It is a better way to find hotel.
