Yiiik, no answer yet !

I only stayed two tiny days in Bangkok, that's all. I can't help that much, but in my knowledge, if you stick to cities, you don't need injections. Do you have travel clinics in Australia ? They will be very precise about what to do, depending on the area you're going to.

What kind of trip would you like ? Partying with travellers (Bangkok+the islands, especially Phuket) or exploring the deep countryside (anywhere north, I've heard great stories from travellers who did that), ...

Moneywise, Thai is very backpacker friendly ! You can go by with as little as AUS$15 per day (or even less if you do groceries), including lodging, food, and transport (my hostel was CAN$6, for food I spent CAN$6 and internet CAN$2. Total = CAN $14 per day !). You have to add extra $ for activities and partying, or if you want hotels instead of hostels.

Vaccinations for Thailand, provided you are not going to be spending too much time out in the jungles would be Hep A, Hep B (optional) and Typhus. If you plan on eating street food then Hep A and Typhus are good to get as you can catch both from improperly prepared food or water. Hep B is transmitted blood to blood, like HIV, but better safe than sorry and if you are getting Hep A, might as well get B. If you want to do a lot of trekking out in the jungles than malaria meds might be a good idea - check with your local travel clinic.

Good places to go - there are many - but here is the standard tourist rundown:
-Bangkok for temples and city life (Khao San Rd is the backpacker section)
-Chiang Mai for trekking, hill tribes, jungles, etc.
-Various islands for sun, sea, parties, diving, kayaking etc: Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Samet, Koh Phangan, Koh Phi Phi - just to name a few - there are hundreds more.

Off the beaten path places - you have to discover those on your own!

thanks for the info. i found a local travell doctor here in brisbane, austraila but i didn't like it to much! the doc just gave me a 2 page paper on the injections that you could get and said pick out the ones you like. i asked him what he would recomend and wasn't interested on giving any addvice. just charge me $30.00 and sent me on my way. its real hard to find a decent doctor here. i dont recomend getting sick.
