Hey ... my name is Jenny and I am looking to go stay in India for 1-3 months or longer. I would love to stay in an ashram that is small and mixes westerners with the indian population. I'm on a spiritual quest for self reflection/discovery. Any ideas?
There are TONS of ashrams all over the country. I suggest doing lots of research-- there are many places with not-so-great reviews, and even in an ashram women traveling alone can be a target. Most ashrams that are small with visiting westerners are typically NOT listed on the internet so you may have to wait until you arrive in India to get more information.
Try to figure out whether you want to base your trip around places you want to see in India or if you're only going to be there for the ashram. Keep in mind that when you're in an ashram you typically do not leave the compound (or at least not very far from it) while you're there.
