Egypt, the Nile, the next big trip
Hi folks,
Jenny and I just shelled out for airfare and a tour in Egypt for this October. Check out the one we'll be taking here:
http://www.deltatoursegypt.com/tours...tic%20Nile.htm
I figured it's ridiculous all the places I've been and I haven't seen the pyramids! We chose a tour because I've read that some of the attractions allow only a limited number of folks in each day. Nothing would be worse than getting all the way to Luxor and having them say, "Sorry, temple's full -- no more visitors today!"
The price of the one we signed up for is pretty reasonable (as you can see on the link)...

Awesome! Everyone I know who has been to Egypt has raved about it.
My husband's seen the pyramids as he's flown over - does that count?
Enjoy.

Wow Mike, you are taking two of my dream trips in the same year! First the pyramids then Machu Picchu? Awesome man!

I think I did that exact same trip about 10 years ago. I was only 14 at the time, but still remember how awesome it was.
It was an amazing trip though, just stay close to a toilet if you eat anything local.

That sounds excellent, Mike. I'd love to do a trip like that. I think it's a good idea to book a tour, you don't want to get all that way and find out you can't do all the stuff you went for in the first place!

I love your trip announcements mike! They always put a smile on my face. Is this the first longhaul trip that you and jenny are going on together?

Pretty much...we've done Mexico and Jamaica...and that long haul out to the Pacific NW last August...! Thanks everyone...I've been wanting to go on a Nile cruise forever.
Funny thing, though, the more well known a location is (like the pyramids, or last year's safari), the more nervous I get about if my pics are going to be any good. I guess I've seen so many really, really cool pics of Egypt, I just figure there's no way mine will measure up.

Of course your pics will measure up, Mike. And besides, what makes your photos so special is the fact that it was actually you who took them! You know? You've gone all that way, had a great trip, taken some photos, and they're great no matter what... because you were there.
That makes little/no sense whatsoever.

Sounds like a great trip. I just finished an awesome book about a journey through Africa by the great travel writer Paul Theroux called "Dark Star Safari: From Cairo to Cape Town." I won't bore you with the details, but the first couple chapters talk about Egypt so it might be an interesting read before you go.

It certainly doesn't.
The key to good pictures is luck, equipment, and photographer skill. To me the most interesting photos will be of things that are not often photographed, or photographed in an unusual manner. One of my favorite photos is of the leaning tower of Pisa...from the inside.
And Mike, you have an excellent eye for photography!

Thanks for the various votes of confidence in my photo skeeels! And I actually have read the Dark Star Safari book -- definitely worthwhile.
Now that you mention it, what do folks think of Paul Theroux? Although I enjoy reading his books to a degree, I think he is one of the most critical travelers I've read. He seems to have this tendency to look down on the folks he meets upon his travels with disdain. Someone once told me (when I mentioned that) they felt it was kind of a British thing. "Damn it, man, nothing but wogs around here, eh wot? And the gin is rot...!" I disagree...I've read plenty of travelogs by Brits that are full of wonder and respect for the world. Just thought I'd mention it, though. That, and perhaps threadjack my own thread!!!

I keep telling Mike he's a great photographer. Walking through his house is like walking through a gallery (by the way, there's NO wall space left for anything new).
