Camp America, Teaching ESL etc Ideas?
Hi Guys,
Well i've just clicked in the past few months that I have under a year to go on my degree and the hardest part will be over in November when I am only doing 1 paper a semester for the following two semesters which should be nice and easy. :D
So I am starting to think more seriously towards the big arse trip I want to take and some of the things I want to do while i'm essentially 'homeless'.
Basically I have been thinking about doing something like Camp America or going to Chile to teach english for 4-6 months, anything basically that will get me into a different country for a few months, say 3-6months - getting me out of my comfort zone and doing something (anything really) where I will learn about a different culture etc either before travelling or inbetween.
I'm not too fussed on the fact that these things cost around $1000USD to do as you tend to get your food and accomodation paid for during the time you are there.
Basically my question, has anyone done any of these things or do you have any other suggestions of anything else that can be done for a few months somewhere other than New Zealand, I am shying away from anything in an Asian country but will consider it (at least if it is going to be the first thing i do as i don't want too much of a culture shock first up while I am dealing with being away from home, being alone, meeting new people etc).
So there you go, any ideas or comments?
Amanda

Live in the rockies. They love hiring kiwis! I've worked there a few times over the past several years and both centers are a blast. They'll help with the J-9 and all that stuff too. Free ski passes both winter and summer, one of the few places left in North America where hitch-hiking to town is common, right near the Continental Divide. Gorgeous. I worked mostly at Snow Mountain Ranch but transfered over to Estes Park a few times when they were short-staffed.

Bingo!
That looks exactly like the kind of thing I was after, thanks Jake!!
I have never skiied or snowboarded in my life though! Is something I want to learn one day though.
Any other suggestions or comments....?

Teaching in Chile sounds awesome! You could also teach in Japan or Korea for a fairly high salary...!
Also check out www.xanterra.com. They employ international workers in U.S. national parks everywhere, and my parents just talked to some workers at Crater Lake last weekend that were loving the program.
