Tijuana, Mexico
So another country crossed off the list! I visited Tijuana, Mexico last friday when I flew to visit a friend in San Diego. We walked down over the border (its a turnstile, literally like boarding the subway in NYC) and there we were, in a whole other country. Wild.
Since it was uncharacteristically cold that day (so like 50's for San Diegoans) no other tourists were down there. Which meant my little group attracted all of the attention from the vendors and shop owners. I didnt have a camera on me unfortunately or I would share some pics. Its a wild place. The craziest part would have to be the donkeys painted to look like zebras. Its really sad; they all look like Eyore, eyes downcast, spirit totally broken. other than that it was pretty amusing, guys telling me they would "rip me off less than the other guys", a man telling me something was "On sale, 100% off"
Anyone else ever been to Tijuana? My wife was pretty nervous but i think she was just remembering the episode of "The OC" when Marisa ODs in a back alley. though i could totally see that happening there.

I was going to go into Tijuana when I went to San Diego last year, but didn't end up going. Kind of wish I had, just so I could say I'd been over the border, but maybe some other time!

Yeah, I went to Tiajuana just after I graduated highschool. My brother lives in Cali, so he took me across the border. I was 18 at the time. It was awesome to sit and drink Coronas (without being carded) while chowing on tasty mexican food. But...that night, my mouth broke out in little cancer sores....which I think had something to do with some crazy salsa I had eaten. It was painful to brush my teeth for an entire week!! Let´s just say that when I went back to Mexico this past year...I was a bit cautious with my salsas. Ha.
But besides that, Tiajuana was pretty cool. I bought some cool stuff.

From what I've heard about that place, I would take "little sores" of any kind very seriously after a visit to TJ...
Sorry, couldn't resist.

I went down through there on my way to and from my Mexico trip. after seeing more of the Baja though on my way back up I felt really odd and out of place there. I think cause it is so different from the rest of the place and just felt wrong.

I've been to Tijuana... it was the thing to do if you were in SoCal and under 21. I didn't like it at first, but once you get out of the main tourist thoroughfare and into the "real" more residential part of the city, I think it's much more interesting. No more tacky bars, no more burros painted as zebras. 'Course, one of the best parts of TJ is going to get prescription drugs without a prescription...

yeah as far as senoran mexico goes I think TJ is my least favorite place. The rest of baja, with the possible exception of parts of ensenada, is so much ....cleaner... That word sounds weird when talking about mexico but it's the one I want to use about baja when compared to tijuana. I've been there twice and won't be back again!
