I have found a backpack called badlands by North Face. It seems to be the best women's pack around... but do I need one designed for women?

What do you guys think? http://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/product.a...AAAAJMCGKCJKPI&

The only thing I wish it had was a detachable daypack, but could I buy that separately?

Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like a nice bag, with the exception of no zip-off day pack. The only other thing is that it's a top-loader, which may or may not work for you (I don't like them but that's just me.)

I would say that if you are fairly petite (like under 5'5") a "woman's" backpack might be a good idea. I have one made for little people because I'm short. I tried on my friend Eva's pack, which looked fairly similar to that, and I'll be damned if the thing didn't make me feel like a turtle that had been flipped over. But she's about 6' or 6'1, so that made sense! LOL

Go to your nearest outdoor store, see if they have some you can try on and otherwise investigate, and go from there. Have fun!!

I dont think u really need a womens backpack, some companies do them some dont, the main difference between the mens and womes is in the hips i think. (did u know that most women have most of their length in their legs (and short torsos) and men are the other way round)anyway back to topic, the best way to find the right backpack for you is to try some on, try cheap ones and expensive ones to find the one that feels right. (see if u can put some wight in there too as that drops the bag down a bit making it more realistic. If your r short u will have to have a smaller bag, I'm 5"10 and i was boderline between the regular and the large (one planet).
The preference of course is to buy a backpack with a detachable daypack but if not I would suggest u try to find a bag that has at least the right hooks for a detachable pack to hook onto the front, that way if u do end up buying a seperate day pack u can at least sew hooks onto that so u have the option of carrying your day pack infront of u.

happy hunting

well, if we're lucky our boobies aren't way out to the side getting in the way of the straps.

actually the straps are a little closer together to accommodate a woman's narrower shoulder width.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I went down to the REI near my house and tried on some packs. I didn't find one that fit, but I did get some very good advice on how to fit them. I guess women's pack do take 'them boobies' into consideration... according to the knowledgeable REI employee the straps are supposed to be S-shaped in order to avoid the chest! I am stuck at my boring temp job right now so I will do some more research.

I had friends who swore by these packs a few years back.

http://www.danadesign.com/packs/

They said that they had never had a more comfy pack for backpacking.

Also, this article gives some pretty good advice for fitting packs.

http://www.enchantedoutdoors.com/articles/1006.html

I have to say that having a pack that fits well makes a trip a million times better. I have borrowed packs from friends before and paid the price because we were not the same body type. Belive me, taking a little time and spending a little money on a good pack can make a lot of difference. - NOT that you have to spend a lot of money, you just have to fit it properly to your body.

I ordered the badlands pack and it came yesterday... I have been working so I haven't had a chance to try it on so I will let you guys know. All the packs at the outdoor stores I went to here didn't fit or strike my fancy so I impulsively bought one off the internet! I can always return it...

Thanks for the advice guys and I'll let you know how it is!
