Default off to india could use some visa advise

hello all
my girlfriend and I are about to take a year plus trip mainly focusing on india and nepal. we are planning on woofing at a place near pondicherry. I also have a friend who is from jaipur im planning on hanging out with. We are planning on spending a pretty good chunk of time bumming around nepal also doing some trecks and what not. I am at the point where im looking for a flight and im not entirely sure what my best option would be since we are gonna be in the area for a long time and dont really have a time table for when we are coming back. I was in africa for seven months doing the same sort of thing and I bought a round trip ticket and just paid the extra money to change my date when I was ready to head home. this trip is hopefully going to last much longer maybe up to a year and a half or longer. so I was wondering if it would be better to buy a one way ticket and have the flexibility to fly out of whatever country we end up at or if it would even be possible to push back the dates on a round trip ticket that far. I am thinking about getting a one way ticket to katmandu in nepal because its cheaper to fly there and I can get a visa at the border and then trying to get the indian visa in nepal. I have read a lot of posts on here about india but the visa and flight stuff is where I dont have a lot of expertise so anyone that can offer any advise it would be much appreciated. thanks a lot!

Hmmm I'm not sure about getting a visa in Nepal. I got my Indian visa at home. Starting last year India has implemented some new visa rules. New Change to Indian Tourist Visa Rules
