i'm looking to head to peru in september (yeah, last minute) and i'm thinking of taking a pre-planned tour.
i'm a little worried of getting stuck on an 'retirement-tour' with a bunch of 65 yr olds who never leave the bus. I'd like a tour that would arrange a guide to hike the inca trail instead of chartering a bus and would give me a chance to see 'peru' and not just drop me off at an A/C'd hotel and say, "this is peru".
So, which tours have y'all taken. How would you rate them, etc. or do just suggest winging it on my own?
Thanks!
Nick

I haven't taken it but this Dragoman trip is supposed to be great. I was hanging out with one of the driver/tour guides and he made it all sound pretty amazing...

I went last December and traveled from Lima to Chiclayo to Piura and then on to Mancora. You can ride almost the entire coast for like 20 dollars on a bus. Although not always the most reliable. I dont know what you are interested in doing in Peru but if you like to party and see places that most Americans never venture to, try a trip up the coast and end up in Mancora. ( www.vivemancora.com) I honestly went for days without seeing another American. Peru is a blast.
