Default Karachi to Goa

karachi to Goa is the final leg of my planned europe / asia trip, i have worked out my transportation for the majoirty of the journey, it is this final part i am a bit unsure of. Has anybody travelled this area, and do you have any suggestions on how I might be best going about it?

Thanks

SpaceVirgin travelled in northen India, and went to Cashmir, so she might have some tips to share.

How long do you have ? Travelling Karachi to Goa overland will take some time.

Hmm. Are you planning to go directly from Karachi into India? I'm not sure which border crossings are easiest. I know that getting into India from Lahore isn't too bad, but that's way north from Karachi. You could probably get into India near Karachi through the state of Gujarat, but I'm not 100% sure on this.

I'm assuming you're planning to take either jeeps, buses or trains? If you have enough money and you went the Lahore route, you could get a flight to Goa from Delhi. Flights are relatively cheap and I can say that from personal experience that intra-india flights are actually quite nice. The Indian rail system is fantastic, in Pakistan I'm not so sure. I'd try to go through Rajasthan on the way to Goa, regardless of your entry point into India you'll pretty much have to go through it anyway. Also a stop in Mumbai is almost required.

I am actually visting family in Pakistan, and will be in Lahore first. The plan is to spend most of my time in Lahore then go see a few of my cousins in Karachi, but I could do it the other way round, if getting to Goa is easier from Lahore.

I'll be looking to get to Goa as quick as possible, i am not looking to do much travelling of India on this trip, however time is no hurdle, i can take as long as i like.

Incidently, I am doing Manchester (UK) to Istanbul via predominately rail prior to getting to Pakistan.

If I had to guess (and I am guessing), it's probably easier to take a train from Lahore straight to Delhi, and get a flight to Goa from there. Even if the border into India near Karachi is easy-peasy, Gujarat is way out of the way and you'd be looking at some serious overnight train journeys to get to Goa.

Here are some of the airlines:

Wicked! I hadn't planned on going to Delhi on this journey but while I'm there it would be rude not to have a look around. Plus, i can't believe how cheap it is to fly from Delhi to Goa.

Thanks for your help

although i am sceptical about some of these fares, Air Deccan are offering flights from delhi to goa for 324 Indian Rupees. Thats less than 4 English pounds, about the same price as a Big Mac Meal, that's cheap flying.

wow i might jsut have to think about flying around india if it is that cheap. if you want cheap flights and are ever in south east asia, check out www.airasia.com if you go on there during the sales you can get flights for 0.30RM (about 5 english pennies!!) i got flights with them for 2 pounds, 3 pounds sometimes.

Keep in mind that there might be a price difference for Indian Nationals and "everybody else". Still, it's usually no more than $100 for a return ticket. Sometimes if you book a flight with a travel agent in India they can get you the Indian National price. I'm not sure how it works.

Delhi is a lot of fun. I think it gets a bad rap, as most people only see the bad parts while transiting through to other places such as Rajasthan. With only a little bit of time to explore I found many places in Delhi that I would love to go back and investigate further.

Oh wow, what an adventure, i can hardly sit still with all the excitement, now all i've got to do is get the funds together for all this, then it's watch out world cause here i come.
