How far would this take you?
How long do you think you could travel comfortably all over Europe with $20k USD?

2.5 to 3 years, depends on your idea of comfortable. Maybe a little less, maybe a little more...

Yeah, there would be a ton of variables. Figuring $75 a day would get you a little under nine months. Is your idea of comfortable couch surfing for free or a private room in a hostel? It would also depend a lot on how much you traveled and in which countries you spend the most time. Although, considering that getting TO Europe (from the US anyway) is probably the biggest expense, you would definitely maximize your return by doing an extended trip.

I would say 2.5-3 years is quite an over estimation. If you are renting in one area for a month you could spend £250-300 on rent and then cook for yourself, maybe another £80 on food then. Then add in all the transport you need to move around Europe and all the trips you wish to take. I think the $75/day is around the mark for travelling comfortable (by which I'm guessing you want private rooms and decent food with the odd tour, trip and dive thrown in.
But there is a lot of variables, really it could be anywhere from 9 months to 2 years.
