Bus trip from Saskatchewan to Central America
Right now this is just a plan in the works but I really wanted to relate the idea to some people who might not instantly think it is an awful plan. So the city I live in is selling some old city buses for about $1500 and a friend of mine found out about it and told me. Turns out if you remove the seats from a bus then according to car insurers it is no longer a bus but an RV and you don't need a special license to drive an RV. So the idea right now is to buy a bus this summer and my friend and I (he is a mechanic) will rip out the seats, put two bunk beds in the back, bolt a couch in and build a mini kitchen and many other things. Then we just need to convince 2 people to join us and drive through the states stopping in interesting places along the way and eventually ending up in Mexico and hopefully beyond. We are hoping we could be all set by 2010 since that would give us an entire winter to work on this thing and once it's done we don't think it will be to hard to convince 2 more people to come along. All in all we would probubly spend at least 6 weeks driving around and living in this thing. It would probubly be cheaper just to fly but I'm willing to cough up the extra cash just so that I can have the story to tell.
So that is the plan!:D
There isn't really a point to this post, I just wanted to outline the whole plan without someone interrupting half way through to say "why don't you just fly?" and then giving me a weird look.

Better yet, figure out if you can convert it to bio-diesel!
Damn this sounds like an awesome idea.

Sounds very cool. We just took the train across the US at Christmas-time. Would have cost the same to fly, but the journey was definitely part of the adventure. And your instinct is totally correct, the stories will be way better.
Good luck with the transformation!

Well we were hoping to leave in July and right now I can't remember what our budget numbers were but I think gas was something like $500 a person.
