When I was in South Africa, a woman I met had taken one of those trips. Not sure if it was the exact same company. The one she did had various "add ons" that you could purchase that weren't part of the base package. For example, she bought the visiting the mountain gorillas in Rwanda, great white shark cage dive in South Africa, etc.

She loved it. Of course, she said it was a lot of money, but it was nice to not have to worry about stressing out the various hard to arrange details of the trip. Plus, it saved a lot of time, having all the transfers and stuff taken care of ahead of time.

By the way, I see you're stationed in the DRC? Where are you at, and what's it like? I've done a decent amount of research on that country, and it seems a pretty rough area...

Thanks for the reply worldwidemike,

This company also has the add ons you can purchase aswell. There seems to be quite a bit of them to choose from.

Ive been wanting to do a truck expedition for some time now. I guess its the closest thing to the old Nairn buses of the 20's and 30's. I hope I get to do this trip.

Im currently back in the US for 2 weeks of leave, but I work for Airserv and am stationed in Goma. Ive only spent so far 2 months in Goma. Its a nice place, very rough, but nice. Flying down south it can get pretty scary, even for the veteran african bush pilots. The majority of the people are wonderful though. Before I got to Goma, lots of troubles started with the goverment troops. Lots of soldiers robbing, rapeing, etc. Its a good eye opening experience specially for someone like me who want to make a name for himself as an adventurer of the African continent.

I will indeed do that. Im a crew chief on a Embraer 120. I dont have enough hours of flying to be a pilot for them yet sadly. Im doing my multi-engine rating starting on monday before I go back.

Product of Brazil, eh? I like to joke, because of their many features that seem strange to us airline "ground ops" workers, that you can tell they were designed upside down in the southern hemisphere...!

You should see the brutal metal cages they have inside the cargo bins on the ceiling. Youch! As if a recessed light needs a sharpened, cast iron grill projecting 3" downward to guard it...! Most of my coworkers have scars from the damn things.

Good luck, and stay safe over there!
