Talking BRAZIL [Questions & Answers]

Boa tarde,

Sou morador brasileiro.

Eu uso tradutor.

Abraços e boa viajem.

Good afternoon,

I'm Brazilian resident. I backpack two years ago. I found this forum and am willing to answer any questions about Brazil. I know how good it is for other travelers to have someone local to give tips.

Ma remember to write correct English or ask me in Portuguese-BR. I use a translator.

Hugs and good journey.

Welcome! I really wish I could make it down there in 2014!

I am visiting Rio soon and haven't decided on accommodation. Most people have said Ipanema is much safer than Copacabana, but some have said that Copacabana has become safer. I am looking at staying at Ibis Rio De Janeiro Copacabana (close to Posto 2) or renting a VERY small apartment through AirBnB located in Ipanema (close to Posto 9).

We feel safer having a hotel as opposed to renting someone's apartment, but it seems the apartment is a much better location. What would you suggest?

Unless the airbnb has stellar reviews, I would go with the hotel if you can afford it. Personally, I usually beef up my budget and book hotels where I can. I understand that it's not always budget traveling doing this, but I try to avoid situations where I have to sleep with one eye open. I need peace of mind

I stayed in a hostel in the Santa Teresa area in Rio and it was OK. I found Rio to be OK but totally watch out, if staying at a hotel makes you feel safer, than stay in a hotel.
