I think after learning a couple of languages and trying the "learning by book/audio" method, the best is total immersion the language of choice. After a recent trip to Spain, I am much more confident in Spanish!

In relation to the whole immersing yourself in the language idea, see if any of your dvds are dubbed or subtitled in the language you want. I work as an aupair in holland, and while the kids watch their movies dubbed in dutch, I have the english subtitles on so I can work out what they are saying. You pick certain things up very quickly.
Then on dutch tv all the american shows are subtitled so I can see how the things are spelt in dutch. This is why dutch people are so great at english, and have a creepy american accent, because they only dub things for kids.
It is especially good for a film that you have seen a lot, or know the plot really well. I have memorised whole chunks of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Wie is dat, de man? Wie dat is? Wie dat... dat is Sirius Zwart meneertje!!!
