Okay, so I should have done my research a long time ago, but for about a year and half I have been paying about $10 in fees every time I used the ATM to pull out cash. I live in Europe now and since I make my income from US companies and since those companies deposit money into my US bank account, I have no choice but to continually use ATM's to pull out money in order to live and pay the bills.
Normally, I was charged about $5 for using a non-bofa atm and I was charged another $5 for using an international atm (maybe for conversion fee or something, can't remember).
Each and every month, I had to use the ATM about 6-7 times to pay me monthly rent and expenses and have money for food and to live on.
So after about a year and a half of doing this, I found out that since Barclays is affiliated with Bank of America, I would NOT be charged these fees, saving about $70 in fees every month. That's the good news.
The bad news is, I had already paid over $1,000 US dollars in fees over a year and a half...
Whatyagonnado....You live and you learn
Side note: I believe if you're European and you bank with Barclays and travel to the USA, then you would not be charged fees is you used ATM's/cash machines from Bank of America. Not absolutely certain, so check with Barclays.
