Longest I travelled was 5 weeks, longest I worked outside of "home" was half a year, in DC.
But yeah, my trips usually last about a month - cuz I usually can't take more holiday than that. But they're usually enough.

Worth every penny....even though I could go for having a few in my pocket right now. I'm bascially starting from scratch in terms of a bankroll which is hard.
The fact is when doing a trip that goes over several months you obviously sacrifice things. Whether it's your job, a relationship, or your time. Money is a common excuse but I find it's the comfort and security of the day to day life that most people aren't willing to give up. It's a tough decision because when it's all said and done (from the time I started saving to the time where I'll be back to being financially secure) it will be close to 2 1/2 years. So theres the trade off of traveling for so long and not working while you do it!

Backpacking - 5 weeks in NW and Central Europe. Stayed at two places for 6 days and the rest for no more then 4 nights.
I have worked outside of my area for half a year also. It was in the same state, but when it is a 9-10 hour trip one-way I call that living out of my bubble.
I would love to travel for several months on end, but until I have a big cushion I can't. Key word "until".

Wise words, my friend.
Which begs the question... do we live to travel, or travel to live? I am seriously thinking about taking a long trip... maybe 6 mth - to a year, and I'm thinking of all the sacrifices that I'll have to make - career-wise, relationship-wise, family-wise... is it worth it??

It's going on just over two years now! It started as a month and a half long backpacking trip through Spain and Italy, then traveled up to study in Sheffield, England (traveling on my many none busy moments), then I got a job in Northern England. And since April I've been in Germany, trying out the language, enjoying the bakeries and the beer. And I'll be back in England in a week to figure out something new!
My next trip back to the states will actually be a 2 month long road trip next summer to see what I haven't seen before!

One and a half years in central Africa - mainly in the Congo (DRC) getting shot at by Nkunda and his rebels while working for Airserv.
Before that is was three months backing packing in Europe. One month in which I was enlisted and going through selection in the French Foreign Legion.
Im planning my around the world motorcycle jurney that will probably last upwards of 3 years.

I still haven't returned home since my last post in this thread. So, that makes one year and seven months worth of climbing, skiing, and working (unfortunately) around Canada and the U.S.
Rad!!

I just finished 7 months in Nicaragua, now back in the states for what will be about 5 weeks, then heading back to Central America for as long as possible, with actually no plans of returning to the states other than to visit, but only for a week next time.....
