Road trip find in Ohio
This is sort of a departure for our family, staying somewhere a bit nice, but last week we were driving from Wisconsin to DC and broke the trip in Maumee, Ohio. Why on earth would we do such a thing? you ask.
Well, it transpires that the Holiday Inn there offers family rooms - we had a room with two queen beds and a pull out double, so comfy sleeping for six (and we squeezed the baby in, too), up to four kids under 12 eat free if mom and dad buy the breakfast buffet - I think it's four kids/adult but I could be mistaken - AND you get four free passes to the on site indoor water park. Unfortunately, the park is closed Tues and Wednesday (guess when we were there?), even in summer, but the pool is still open and they did open one of the slides for a few minutes while we were there.
We drove through downtown Maumee, for kicks, and were charmed by it's old time, main street USA feel. Since our kids haven't grown up in the States, it is novel to them. Everything was closed by the time we arrived, but there were lots of funky little boutiques for mum, and a number of ice cream shops for everyone else.
One of those surprise trip finds that more than makes up for putting people in car seats for 8+ hours a day.

there are some great scenic routes in Ohio though, especially in the fall when the leaves turn.

that sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Almost makes me wish I had a family so I could reap the rewards of it....
(but then I realise that would be crazy)
good tip though! sounds like fun!

I was thinking about it until I looked at the Akron Zoo site and if I read it right, the Road trip is only for the evening event that they are holding.
