well i went and bought a Korjo designer combination lock the other day and i have to say that it doesn't really provide any security at all. Having never attempted to crack a combination lock in my life i thought that i would give it a go on my new $15 Korjo comination lock. I got my mum to set the combination on it so as that i didn't know what it was and preceeded to try and figure out the trick for opening these things. Well, about a minute later i had the friggin thing open!! If someone who's never tried to open a combination lock can get it open in 1 minute, imagine what a pro can do.

So, if you're gonna buy a combination lock for your bag i'd walk straight past the Korjo designer locks.

Thanks for the heads up! Caution to all the other folks from Oz out there!

Recommendation:

If you are flying into the US from overseas and expect to leave the US via plane, buy a TSA-approved lock. The US Transportation Safety Admin, who does security at our airports randomly checks your checked luggage for bombs, etc. There is an entire series of locks that are approved by them, and have this logo:

These locks have a key hole that is only unlocked by a master key that the TSA has available for their inspectors.

If your luggage is selected at random, and you do not have TSA-approved locks, they will cut the locks to gain access. You'll know they have been there since they are required by law to leave a not saying they were.

Save yourself the trouble, and buy the locks ahead of time if you intend on a US visit. I bought several Eagle Creek TSA locks from EBags.com... and the website for the locks... www.travelsentry.org

hey LFB, what was it about the lock that made it so easy to open? did you just go through all the possible combinations until it opened?

Tack-

In my travels I've always locked my car/house keys in my carry-on. To me, carrying a key only gives it an opportunity to be stolen/lost. Murphy's Law is a bitch. Its a 3-digit combo, so forgetting it isn't the hardest thing.

I've flown with TSA locks before, and though I've never had my luggage searched, it sure as hell is easier than zip-tieing my bags. I did that into Vegas and realized when I checked in I didn't have anything to cut them with! D'OH!

Had to beg the front desk to let me borrow something to cut them open with...

Nah i didn't go through all the possible combinations.

When the lock was locked i found that if i pushed on the part of the lock that opens (yellow bit in the picture of the designer locks in the link i put up) it would make the bottom number turny bit (wow, that's a technical term, ummm number disc sounds better) hard to turn. So i turned the bottom number disc and noticed that it got easy to turn for one number - that was the first number of the combination. Then i just repeated the process for the next one up, and so on until i had it open. I'm hoping it's just the design of these locks that makes them so easy to open and that not all combination locks are the same.

Default Korjo Locks failed to stop my luggage contents being stolen

I suggest you dont buy Korjo locks in the first place. My bags were 'secured' by Korjo luggage locks which were child's play for my thief, he simply levered them open with a screwdriver. Korjo were unsympathetic and did not even give me the courtesy of a reply when I reported the matter. So avoid Korjo locks.
