Best bet is when you get there just add up the cost of the campground and the commute versus the cost of staying in the city. Some other things that might help too are maybe cheaper food and activities in the sticks compared to the city as well.

I'm planning on camping whenever i can in my 6-8 week trip this summer, for any other campers heres a useful website ive been looking about, no where near completed but it does have a few gems in there if you look hard enough...

got the MSR Twin Peaks this weekend, magnificent. i couldnt help but camp out at the farm iw ork on, and it worked fine on a pretty rainy and windy night. its super light weight and easy to fold up and set up. gets my special thumbs up

what about sleeping bags, are there any especially non-bulky ones around? I won't be camping until the last three weeks of my two-month Europe trip (mainland as well), and am not sure about what to do about the tent situation. We have a tent that will work, but the sleeping bag I have is bulky as hell.

You can get ultralight sleeping bags - just look that up. I got one thats 21 oz and is about the size of a loaf of bread.

yeah check out rei they have a combo of pack, sleep bag, and tent that is all under 8 lbs

check out www.wiggys.com they have got super light sleeping bags and other supplies. they supply a lot of stuff for the airforce, good stuff but its a little pricey.

The one you posted doesn't really look that great to me...(I checked its stats)...but I have high standards for gear.
Vango has the best ultralight bags I've ever seen. Its a European brand. There are others that are good as well (NorthFace, Sierra Designs, Marmot). You get what you pay for though, so expect to pay a little more for a good one. My suggestion is that you find the bag that suits your needs then search the web and find it on sale

Ok I've found this one This one is it any good? Delivery is a problem from the states as I only have 2 weeks or so left for it to get to me. I've left everything till the last minute.

I think for that price you can probably do better.....that tent looks a bit awkward and old-school to me (just being honest). Look at Vango (UK) or Sierra Designs (US) for examples of good quality/design tents. Once you find one you like, search for it on sale - you can almost always find it a good 25% less than MSRP.

This looks like the perfect tent for the backpacker who does not want to have to worry about getting caught out in the rain in some remote area of Scandinavia or have to depend on others for his/her accommodations. If it’s as good as it looks I will buy one this coming Saturday.

That tent looks OK, but Integral have a reputation for poor construction and things coming apart. For that price you can probably find something better. Just one example: Solomente AST - this tent also provides a little more space which is handy if you want to keep your gear out of the elements.
