I'll be leaving the 20th for a 6 month trip traveling all of mainland europe with one of my buddies. I'm 5'8", and pretty strong. We won't focus too much on camping, but will be taking a small tent and warm sleeping bags because we don't expect to have the money or find a place to stay every night. We're taking basic warm and cold-weather clothes and jackets, plus thermal shirts and underwear, aside from the other necessities. Any idea on what is the best backpack to bring?(actual models, but specifications on what it should have would help to, aside from what's already mentioned throughout this site).

We expect to be taking a lot of trains and buses, considering our smaller budget, and we do expect to walk a bit. I was looking into those larger hiking packs, but they seem to big and cumbersome to be very helpful. What's the perfect bag to bring that I can carry around but still be able to carry things?

Hey,

I know I am a girl and all, but I am a backpack guide and can carry my fair share. The thing about a huge pack and being in the cities is it is hard to get on and off trains, buses, planes, and so forth.

I would say go for a 70 lt. , anything more will just hold you back. Especially if you are not doing a lot of walking and more relying on public transport. I used one that size for 3 months in Costa Rica and it did me just fine. Just big enough to hold it all, and small enough that it did not become a huge hassle.

Good luck!

I'm leaving in June for 3 months in Europe and I just bought a Gregory bag from REI. Seemed a bit pricey at 200$ but it weighs 3lbs and holds a lot.
I'm 6'1 so I made sure to get a bag as long as my back.
