I am not sure if Melbourne is typical but there the lowest price was 1.40 AUD per liter or roughly 4.75 USD per Gallon
So yeah as much as we complain stateside the rest of the world is still more expensive (although the difference has been closing)

Yeah I always bring that up on gas debates. Granted they tax 30-40% more in a lot of cases than we do... Just wondering, it would be real neat to get a car to drive from Sydney to Perth or vice versa.
I guess minimum wage makes up for that difference. I can't believe they make around $13 an hour as a minimum. Thats amazing. While I'm stuck with a campus job making $5.85.

I think petrol is around $1.70 a litre here in NZ, havn't filled up for a while though so could be 5-10cents either side of that knowing how the prices have been recently

I remember not that long ago how outraged everyone was when the price of petrol went over $1.00 for the first time, now everyone gets excited if it is <$1.40

How long ago was that? I can remember around 2000 when gas was $1.00 a gallon, or roughly 4 liters(25 cents a liter)... Now we are happy when its under $3.00 a gallon. Still a far cry from most all other countries of the world.

It was around the start of 2005, we were still paying around 80-90 cents a liter in 2000.
