Girls finding farm work

Hey dudes,

I'm a newb on here....seems like the boards are a bit dead but many people are lurking so I hope someone will answer :)

I'm a Canadian on my first work/holiday visa in Oz and I'm definately going to get my 2nd. Must complete the required farm work, however I really want to do farm work concerning cattle (*mustering* <3, etc).

For my own reasons, and where I want to go in life, anything with cattle or livestock would be beneficial for me as opposed to fruit picking or packing etc.

Anyways I'm actually finding it difficult to find any livestock work, and I'm wondering if any other girls out there had the same problem. How do you get people to take you seriously and not just brush you off as a city slicker that can't handle a little cow sh*t?

I'm an experienced/confident horse rider, and am a beginner dirt bike rider, but as far as my actual farm experience goes its basically nil. Though I really do want to learn, and did enjoy my one experience of preg testing cattle.... any tips on how to get country folk to give you a go?

I'm currently living in a very small country town (fell for a boy and now I'm here :P) where basically every person and his dog has cattle property. So it seems like this should be a lot easier but I'm still job-less! I've been offered a job on a dairy farm, but its all the way in Perth and I'm currently living in NSW. Ideally I'd prefer to stay here, but if it comes down to the line I may have to make my way to Perth before my visa runs out.

This is turning into a 'what do I do with my life!' rant... so if anyone has any advice or stories, or pick me ups, it would be a really big help :)

Okay... off to the pub to try to meet some farmers. Yay or nay on the mascara... ? ;)
