What's your interest rate? The rates are the lowest they've ever been. I consolidated my student loans and "locked in" at 8%, which was fantastic for 1998 or whenever it was. Now you can get it as low as 1.5%, so if you need to consolidate, now is a good time. Unfortunately, you can only do it once - unless you go back to school and take out another loan, so I'm sorta screwed

I took the 10 year plant and a locked 2.77 rate which is reduced to 2.52 with autopay (tax deductable). My plan is to live very cheaply and pay 500 per month to have it paid up by 1st qtr end 2008. This will get me debt free and thats when I plan to hit the road...hopefully forever. If I had planned this a couple of years ago my student loans would be 25% of what they are now (16,000 usd). You live and learn. I am consolidating now since interest rates are rising and I need to lock it in and screw my lender (since inflations is averaging 3% and higher now!).
Just throw all you can at the loan and math will take care of the rest.

Yeh well i have $53,279 in student loans. My car was just repoed last year and all my Credit cards were canceled. I haven't paid my taxes in 3 years and I just sold my high school ring for 20 dollars to some crackhead so I can eat this month.

My wanting to travel has kind of been what kept me out of debt. I always kinda figured that if I was in it then I would have to put travel on hold. I was lucky though and was able to not have to take out student loans.
Do many of you travel while still under the loans or save up to get the loans over and travel after?
