Eee, it's been a long time. I check the boards every couple of days, but obviously I've not posted for a long long time!

So, me. I've been working as a nurse for 8 months now, pretty sure most of you know, but it's an inpatient unit for 13-17 year olds with mental health problems. Wowzer, it's a challenge, massive staff shortages mean long hours and stressful shifts, but I love my job.

I'm also in the "oh my god, all my friends are getting married" group, after 6 years, I'm wondering when my time will come! We finally moved in together in April, and it's wicked!

I've not really been away much, had a 2 week holiday to Orlando for Disneyworld in September, had lots of fun, but spent waaaay too much money!!

Anyway, it's nice to check in once in a while, I like to see what people have been doing, but just feel I haven't got much to contribute at the mo!

Check into these boards every couple of days for the past couple of months, looking for travel inspiration, new meetup pics and just general information. I agree, its a little quiet at the moment, but theres many a post on here that i havent read yet, so that keeps me slightly entertained when im feeling lazy and just want to sit here at my PC and whittle away the hours.

Life in general, well, apart from work, and pottering around the house, i have done sweet f a for the past few years, not trips, no adventures, no anything really. It was hella depressing for a long while and there was a time i thought i had lost my sense of adventure, put on weight and didnt even go out with friends anymore...

But now, I have got a fair few weeks holidays saved, and am currently amusing myself researching and calculating finances for a trip middle of next year... Perhaps not the sell everything and head off indefinately kinda trip that i took in '04, but nonetheless, it will be good to be back on the road..

Travelpunk is a top site, a top community and always has been, lets not let a good thing die..

Great Thread!!

I finished my degree in June & rewarded myself with a 3 week trip to Argentina which was amazing, but spent a bit too much $$ as usual. I have been accepted as a provisional ACA (associated chartered accountant) and have just in the past couple of weeks decided to take a leap and start my post grad so I can become a chartered accountant – still working as an auditor, I think I would’ve pulled all my hair out by now if I was still an accountant at work. Work has me travelling around the north island quiet a bit – just got to spend a week in Auckland which was good for a change.

Still travelling around the north island a lot on weekends for racing. Am trying to sort out when I can next get some overseas travel in – hoping for a couple of months at the end of next year since we close down for a month at the end of the year anyway I figure adding an extra month or so shouldn’t be too hard – now to decide where to go! 7 days left of work then I get a month off but no major plans, new years in taupo, big day out in Auckland in January and a few days on waiheke island camping – here’s hoping we get some decent weather!!

Well I have been spending most of my time studying, at the beginning of this semester I switched into History and have since been looking into graduate programs. At Halloween I took a quick trip to visit some friends in Vancouver and then caught a ride home with some guys back to Regina. In February I'm heading to New York for the first time over reading week and I will be there for about 5 days.

Other than that I have been trying to scare up some sponsors for the Budapest-Bamako rally. I finally got my first one and received a free set of tires, so hopefully some more people start jumping on the band wagon. Also I'm putting the finishing touches on my pitch to a television production company to make a travel documentary about my friend and I in the B2; I have been racking my brain over that one for months though because I want it to be perfect since if they say yes it would be amazing.

This is a good thread! It's nice to just see that people are still out and about, and still here on tpunk.

I'm winding down to the last month of my time on the road after 1.5 months in South East Asia, 3 months in OZ and now a month in NZ...I've been spending the last few days hitchhiking like a maniac, climbing mountainy things and just having a blast out in the gorgeous rugged majestic south island and I'm trying to stalk down a certain blinkchick again for a world rainbow gathering in a few days...

I'll be back in the States come jan 14th and will see how things work out with the boyfriend, money or lack of, and jobby things that are related.

Damn freespiritz, you sure do spend a lot of time on the road!

Over the past few years I have invested quite a large amount of myself in climbing. Having accomplished the majority of my short term climbing goals, I feel it is time for a challenge of the intellectual variety. So, once the winter climbing season in the Canadian Rockies comes to an end, I plan on returning to Australia to study environmental/hydro engineering (or something like that).

As far as travel goes, there is a chance of some Mexico/Cuba action once the Rockies season finishes…or perhaps Thailand. We’ll see how things pan out.

And that’s me.

quite natural to be worried maybe even a bit scared but don't worry-once you're there it will be worth it.

I filed my court paperwork today to have my day in court with one of my old vendors from the hobby shop days. Woot! They want $8k, I'm not interested in paying them.

I am stoked cause the WSOP schedule was released today. I will be playing in event #13!!!! I can't wait!

That is the excitement in my life right now.... of course Cancun in Feb.

I've been studying in Mainz, Germany since October and will be here til at least August. Our Christmas break has just began, and I fly off to Morocco tomorrow. Other than the immediate things . . . . trying to get everything in order for the Karamoja Education Network, the organization I helped to start in Uganda last summer. Things are going really well for us and we should be sponsoring at least 10 students this next term. (Karamoja Education Network)

Otherwise . . . school, shitty school. I'm really not a fan of University here in Germany. Its so much less social than what I'm used to in California, and the structure of the whole thing really doesn't push me to learn at all, but . . . oh well. I'll complete my bachelors after one more semester back in California, then either grad school, or possibly start roaming the world in search of adventure and business opportunities, since I don't want a real job anyways. I'm 50/50 on the issue right now. I'm pretty adamant about not needing the master's degree since I wanna be my own boss anyways . . . but at the same time its always nice to have a fallback, and I couldn't settle for a bachelor-level position within the International Relations field.

So that's the low-down. Its good to hear from you all! And if anyone's gonna be in Mainz, come kick it!

Cool thread

I'm just working. Not much overtime, but it feels like it is all the time. I work mainly outdoors at a hotel/resort as grounds supervisor, but I also slip in sometimes to manage the interior plants. I am thankful that I don't work in a cubicle, but still I need to travel and be more free. Just saving and trying to get my ducks in a row while my wife finishes grad school.

Well figured I might as well add my two cents.

Currently working on a Masters degree in Information and Communication Sciences. It's a two year program in 11 months, so very intense. Just finished my first semester with a GPA about 10 times better than I expected so very happy about it.

I hope everyone is doing well, I really miss traveling.

Well, I've been a bad tpunk. I sometimes log in here to have a quick read but don't reply much anymore-- there are SO many more people with more recent Europe experience than me, and India questions are few and far between so...

Anyway, in the last year my art "career" has taken off somewhat. Not like major big time, but I've sold, uh... I don't remember, somewhere between 12 to 14 paintings. Plus I'm working for a company that sells hand-painted clogs, which is a lot of fun. I'm still working for a hotel company (and making use of my employee room night discount when possible).

Many of you know that I was engaged. Well, "WAS" is the operative word: I broke it off in August. Over time I realized that while he was wonderful, he needed and wanted a mother more than a partner, and, well, that is NOT ME. Plus his family would have made my life hell. So: splitsville. It sucks, but it's definitely for the best because I would have killed him.

I have more plans for my future, not just with art but with some other stuff I'm working on. It's going to take a few years and I'm not really saying much about it but you'll all know when it goes live. :D

I got back from my 4th trip to India in November, and finally finished uploading all of the photos to my flickr. I'll probably start putting them up here too but it's going to be a longer process. You can see them here: India 2009 - a set on Flickr

Rob good luck in the poker tourney!!!

Wow it was really nice reading about everyone! Now about me...I finished my seasonal work at the hotel in October, bummed around for a bit, went back to El Salvador in December and now I'm back home waiting for the Vancouver Winter olympics to start in February! I will be working everyday in Feb as a Host. Basically I will be hosting corporate VIP's around to events, dinners etc..It should be fun and Im getting paid a shitload. In march/april I plan on travelling again. Then in May its back to my seasonal hotel job and then in the fall I will probably be moving to the UK to do my working holiday visa. Thats my life. I love it. Freeeeedom!

Well I know I'm not as big a regular as some of the people registered here, but I do visit here every few days and have noticed it has been a tad quiet.

Well, I was supposed to go on my 100 day journey around Western Europe in November 09, but my parents ended up needing to borrow a bit of money from me. No biggy, they'd be able to pay me back short term.(I scheduled to leave mid February) Unfortunately my mother was diagnosed with Heart disease in December, surgery was undergone at the Royal Melbourne hospital. It didnt feel right to leave for Europe while my mother is still in a fragile state, hopefully the trip will go ahead after the World Cup. I'm still in Melbourne, I dont know if and when I'm gonna go back to Brisbane. Im not sure what that means in terms of my undergraduates degree.

Trying to manage my health issues mostly.

Was in Alabama. Went to cali to see Sarah. Stopped by my dad's in north cali to visit and my parents had apparently already planned for me to stay in California beforehand. They have been in contact for a bit.

The apartment in alabama burned down. One of the firefighters knew me and pulled my bikes out of the fire. and the bike shop shipped them out to me for free.

i have been dog sick, depressed, and dealing with my epilepsy. Broke a soap dish after I had a seizure and fell out the shower. For a bit it was up to 3 seizures a day. I am down now. so we will see.

oh, and i just lost my insurance.
