I have a few questions about currently living in OZ - TravelPUNK Backpacker College Student Budget Travel Message Boards!

I am going for a working holiday in Australia and I have a few questions

Is it farely easy to find work in places like Sydney, Melbourne and Perth or Gold Coast for hospitalty jobs or warehouse/construction jobs?

Is $10,000 cdd or $11,000 aus enough to bring along if I am to also work for a year long in Australia?

What is the most expensive thing in Australia when living there?food?accomadation?partying?transportation(bu ses,rail)?

Thank you I am planning on going in May of this year

How exciting! Oz is a great place to live...

You can get haspitality jobs pretty easily in Melb, Syd and Qld

Mining jobs in Western Australia

Transport is pretty cheap over here, and so is food if you cook... Accommodation is prob the most expensive thing, look for a short term house share/room share on gumtree (hostels are mostly rip offs)

As theworldismyOYSTER said, you should be able to find work in the major cities, as well as in busy tourist destinations like Cairns and Airlie Beach. Not sure about the mining work though, I have heard that it's not that easy to get into anymore. You should also be able to find harvesting work: check out this site harvesttrail.org.au

11k $au sounds ok if you just use it when you arrive and as a back-up, and rely on the money you earn while here. Nothing is particularly expensive over here, though our dollar is quite strong at the moment so that may make a difference.

as they've said hospitality work is easy to get. My biggest shock was the price of food. a can of rootbeer here is over $3.00

so cooking for yourself is a major key in staying in budget.

I personally never went to the place but one of my cousin is working there from many years. And what I know on his behalf is that you can find jobs in hotels and restaurants easily. If you have an international driving license then I think you can also get a taxi to drive.

And if you can save on food then it will be best for you as you may save much money in that. Sharing a home is better option to cut down on living.
