Hey all
I think I might have gotten a cool job at Ford driving the courtesy shuttle. So im Still planning on heading to Oz in Septemeber, however im starting to wonder from reading Kats posts if a year is too long, she said she was bored with sydney after a few days, I was plannin on hangin out for a month or so :S Anyways Im thinking althought its laidback and great, there just might not be enough sites to keep me lookin around, i dont wanna just lay on the beach for 6 months (WHATS WRONG WITH ME!!!!!!!) are there any other option, like I know that new zealand and tas are just a spittin distance away same with south east asia, so any other suggestions caue if I get bored in Oz where would be the next best place too go in that area of the world ? Im thinkin maybe even half way through the triop just for something new and then come back and finish strong lying on the beach
anyways need suggestions and be hoenst is a year too long for what Oz offers in sites ?

Okay I think the opposite will happen. A year won't be enough time! Have you looked at australia lately? Do you know how big the country is. It's so huge and requires a lot of time to see all of it. Most people focus on the east coast but think about doing the west coast (perth) and uluru in the centre of the country. You can rent a car and drive across the Nullabor. I'll be in australia for about 10 months next year and I don't think that will be long enough. Coming from canada I understand what a big country is! So I know that seeing all of australia (like I want to do) will require lots and lots of time. Besides once you start backpacking you'll meet tons of people and have a whole new group of friends. Here you are in aus, young, with plenty of friends and no worries. Why would you want to leave that! If you do get the itch and want to leave. Take off to bali for a couple weeks and new zealand is soo close. i;m sure you can get cheap flights and last minute deals. But trust me one year will fly by! :D

Where to Next? Iceland!

Hey newbie, just go with the flow....you almost sound a little stressed...relax...stay cool....

Fly to OZ, enjoy yourself, and if the opertunity presents itself, take off to Bali, or New Zeland or Thailand, or where ever....this is your vacation, enjoy it...I can asure you getting bored will be the last thing that will happen to you down under, but you'll be surprised where you might end up...just keep an open mind, and when some guy or gal you've been hanging with in a hostel asks if you wanna fly into Japan for a few weeks because there is a seat sale, you jump all over it... Its very hard to plan a years worth of activities, especially when you have never been before...so go easy on yourself my friend

A friend of mine backpacked in Costa Rica and met these two Englishmen who lived in Austrailia for three years, well kinda, you see they would work full time in Austrailia for 2 months and then fly to Vietnam, Thailand, or Laos and use the money they saved up to live and party for like 4-6 months there because the money is worth so much more....then they would go back to Oz and work another 2 months and so on and so forth....and they did this for like three years on and off....just a thought/idea.....

....Macronesia would be awesome to go to.......you know like the fijian islands and stuff.......

But like Dio said.....Oz is huge!!! I guarantee that if you go with an open mind and ready for adventure then you will have no problem finding things to keep you busy!!!

Heh heh, hey Noobs, actually what I meant in my previous post was that I got bored with the particular section of Sydney I was staying in and had to venture out of the main part of the city!!!

Gosh, I would kill to to spend a year in Australia!!! I would LOVE to see the entire country as opposed getting to sample only a very small part of its East Coast!

It's natural to fret since it seems like a long time in one place, but it's a big country and you're going to be having so much fun exploring the country and meeting great people that, before you know it, a year will have gone by! So make the most of it and live it up while you can!!!!

:D
