Packs that are too big

Howdy All,

I've been checking out a whole bunch of different packs and am really digging the Gregory Pallisade. It's pretty damn big though (a medium is 5100 c.i.) I don't plan on taking all that much but I do plan on doing a fair bit of long distance hiking when I get back. I'd rather not buy a travel pack and still have to buy something to hike with later. So I figured I'd get a nice big hiking pack and just cinch down the compression straps.

My question is: Do you think the slim, tall design of the pack would cause me problems stuffing it in lockers and such? If it is then I'll look elsewhere, but I think the long thin design would make me less likely to be knocking people over when I turn around.

BTW, has anyone on these boards done any long distance hiking? In the north east?
and wal-mart hasn't sued for this yet?

what are the dimensions of the pack?
most lockers that i found would fit my pack which is 70L , but there wasn't a huge amount of room left

campmor says it's 33x12x12, and EMS says it's 32x12x10.

Use caution on the size of your pack, I made that mistake. I thought bigger was better and I was sadly mistaken. The bigger your pack, the more you will put in it, the heavier it is, remeber you have to lug this thing around, and your back and shoulders will feel the pain, no matter how you adjust your straps. Get one thats comfortable and practical. And Test them out before you buy. A good dealer will have weights on hand to let you feel what its like to carry it full. Good Luck!
