Does the US have cheap airlines? And are they cheap like easyJet and Ryanair or are they cheap compared to the major airlines in the US?

Independnce Air wnet out of business but what about JetBlue?

Oh and no there is no airline like RyanAir. I dont think we will EVER see airlines that cheap here.

Yea, I think SouthWest would be our cheapest.... Alaska Airlines has some about the same price some times, but only a few.

Many of the majors now are fairly competitive with Southwest - at least if they fly out of the same airport. The problem is that each market/route is different and there isn't one consistent go-to discount airline in the U.S. There is no real subsititution to shopping around.

I'm about to book a flight on ATA to DC...never heard of it before - but it was the cheapest airline I found on mobissimo with the flight times I wanted. Not that it was much cheaper - there is simply NO equivalent in the States to the dirt-cheap EU lines.

So, anyone ever flown ATA? Do I need to bring a crash helmet?
