Has anyone in the UK found a good company to get backpackers TI from?
I found http://www.coeconnections.co.uk/ and they seem ok... anyone used them before?

I used insureandgo.com when I went abroad last year. Didn't need to make a claim fortunately but they seem pretty comprehensive and good value.

if you live in the UK i've always found doing a search on www.moneysupermarket.com a safe bet as they compare over 450 companies. Coeconnections specialise in student and backpacking insurance so it seems a good bet!

Doesn't the ISIC card come w/ insurance and isn't insurance overrated anyways? (knock on wood)

I had to cancel a three week trip to Morocco once - it was bad enough that I had to cancel it, I'd have been devastated if my investment had gone up in smoke too! I always get travel insurance now.
Even if you don't have a huge sum invested in tickets, if you get sick and need to get treatment or get home quickly, it's nice not to have to pay for that for the rest of your life.

This might sound slightly dim, but a round the world trip - does that count as a single trip, or multi-trip? I'm guessing single trip, as you only leave home once, right?

yep i think you're right. multi-trip means more than one separate holiday, a round the world trip only counts as one.

Oh, I'm so glad you had insurance to fall back on. At least you've got some $$$ to start with when you finally get your health situation sorted and can go on your trip.

i also have an annual policy with insure and go it cost me £40 but it does include money and baggage aswell
I also find that the insurance offered from tpunk isnt really that cheap for us Brits..more directed at the North American market

I was thinking of getting travel insurance. What i was looking at would have cost me like $120?? Does that sound about right for almost 2.5 months?
Im actually thinking of forgoing the insurance...would this be a horribly bad decision?

Travel insurance is always a wise investment. That $120 can wind up saving you thousands down the line, whether it's in lost air/train fares, ho(s)tel bookings, or worse yet, hospitalization.

Chances are that you won't need it, but would you rather pay $100 up front and have the peace of mind that if something weird happens you're covered, or would you rather have to come up with a couple thousand on the spot to pay medical bills or an emergency ticket home?
I had to cancel a trip three weeks prior, had I not had insurance, bye bye $1300.
My aunt got hit by a motorcycle on her second day in Delhi, spent most of her stay in a clinic.
Last time we went to the US/Canada, one daughter had a burst eardrum, our son had some freaky reaction to a bug bite, and all four kids got chicken pox. And my husband got an ear infection.
On a trip to Austria, our son had to have an xray and his lip sewn up from a playground accident.
In Greece, our daughter contracted tonsilitis & bronchitis.
We've been thankful to have insurance on more than one occasion on the road!
Hopefully you won't have too many playground accidents, but viruses and motorcycles can wipe out big boys, too!

I agree. I used it for the first few years and realized it was a waste of money for me. I generally take preventative measures. If it was ever that bad, I would pay for the doctor. I guess being young and heathy has its benefits.

I will add that I am a major risktaker. And an eternal optimist. I wouldn't recommend my thinking to anyone else...but it works for me.

Can I just add that I met a guy in Serbia who managed to get what looked like second degree burns all up his legs when he fell asleep under the sun in Croatia a week before. He said it was very painful but he hadn't even seen a doctor because he didn't have any travel insurance and didn't want to pay for treatment. This not only ruined (or severly affected) his holiday, but could also have long term health consequences.
Personally I always get insurance for trips longer than a few days or "high risk" trips.
