Anyone have any ideas of some kind of internet work that would be possible while travelling?

I may look into a categorizing job that I'd been offered before... but I'm not sure if that can be done anywhere.

Just a random thought

Well if you have any HTML/Java/Flash knowledge you can get a job editing websites for companies. Pays well but is time consuming.

Some porn sites have web chat girls....but most require to be able to be contacted via phone also. (I looked into phone sex jobs...its good money)

In Brisbane I had a web chat job. I would go into chatrooms, then I had to talk really dirty and try to get guys to come look at my 'site' to see more pics of 'fake' me. You had to make up a fake name and profile. Whenever a guy joined the website to see more of my pics then that was when I made money. I think it was something like $40 for each person that signed up.

geesh i only did it for a couple days. Its hard work cuz the guys were so skeptical.

Trading shares? I have a client that calls me to sell his shares so he can fund the next leg of his travels. What a b*stard!

I'm doing okay trading myself but not enough to keep me on the road...

Skills? Well I'm a pretty damn good writer when I need to be. I do have basic HTML/Visual Basic (old I know)

I am actually really good with computers I just don't have the flare for the business ideas.

I have seriously contemplated starting up a magazine (as some may remember) so perhaps an internet magazine... (with many many references to TP of course) and then sell advertising space on it. Bah I dunno.. it was just a thought.. I konw lots of people who say that they are looking into starting an internet company... just wish I could do that and then always have work around the world!!

You wouldn't even get all that much for banner adds on a site. Big sites charge between £200 -£500 per month sometimes for the year.

That's cause you had such mediocre porn on your site ... I don't have a problem with the amount of porn on the internet, it's the fact that it's such low-quality porn

Some things that can be accomplished overseas, graphic design, xml, web design and web site administration, tech support and print/freight brokering - to name a few...

I'm pretty sure, however, if it can be done from a distance, they're doing it in India for 1/3 the price...

On most of my trips, I've seen bulletins posted in hostels or internet cafes looking for temporary web design work. I've never stuck around one location long enough to do it, but if I ever do some serious long-term traveling, you bet your ass I'd be calling up all those leads!

I'd be in on that kind of work for sure. It'd help keep you travelling longer while your already wherever. Sucks that I know NOTHING about working strictly with computers, unless all it involves is typing in a word processor.

By asking about internet work, I asume you are looking for a way to make money while traveling??? Ever sell stuff on eBay before? You can sell on ebay from anywhere in the world if you do it like this ----

1) open an eBay account
2) open a checking account with world wide ATM access and a debit card
3) open a Pay Pal account (you can also get a debit card from pay pal which is directly linked to your pay pal account)
4) get a venders license from your local city hall
5) Open a wholesale account with a DROPSHIP wholesale company (dropshippers are all over the internet, it won't be hard to find one, or 2, or 3, ect.). Dropshipping is very important for traveling. The wholesaler does all the shipping, and inventory. Not all dropshippers require a venders license, but most good ones do.
6) set up your auctions selling ONLY items from the dropshipper.
7) The only form of payment you can accept is Pay Pal (something like 90% of people on eBay prefer to pay with Pay Pal anyway). You can not accept any payments which have to be mailed to you.
8) Everytime someone pays for one of your auctions with pay pal, you transfer the money to your checking account. (this can easily be done right from pay pals website)
9) Use your checking account debit card to pay the wholesaler for the items you sold. NOTE: some dropshippers will not accept debit cards, only credit cards. in this case, you need to have enough credit limit to cover your bill with the dropshipper. You should be able to make payments on your credit card using your checking account, over the internet.
10) The dropshipper ships your item to the person who bought it. Most dropshippers ship thier items within 72 hours of recieving your payment.

Everything listed above can be done from anywhere in the world over the internet, with the eception of getting a venders license. And you will need to have your debit card before you go on your trip, since it is snail mailed to you.

If you use a dropshipper, you do NO shipping, No inventory, and you can usually use the dropshippers photos and item description from thier website to set up your auctions (ask for permision first).

If the only form of payment you accept is pay pal, then you don't have to go to the bank to cash a check or moneyorder, and you don't have to wait for a payment to be mailed to you (you can't recieve mail if you're traveling anyway). Pay Pal is the #1 way to pay for an auction on eBay, and it is quite common for sellers to ONLY accept pay pal. As a side note, Pay Pal is OWNED by eBay.

Since all the money is going into your checking account, you can use your debit card to get your hands on your profits from just about any ATM. And use the profits to pay for your trip, while you are on the trip.

If you do your eBay auctions like this, then 100% of the work is done over the internet. No shipping, No boxing up items, No going to the bank. All you need is an internet connection, and a lap top computer, and you can do this from anywhere in the world. Most hostels, and good hotels have internet access. And don't forget about internet cafes. If you have any questions on how to do eBay, just ask, I'll try to help.
