I am in the beginning stages of planning a trip to Europe. We'd like to do about 1/3 hostel, 2/3 camping. I have looked into several European campsites, but I'm wondering about the availability of backcountry camping.
-Where can I camp?
-What are some experiences you've had with camping in Europe?
-How do I fit this into my plans? For instance, I'd hate to plan for a night or two sleeping out under the stars only to get to a country and find out it's too dangerous or illegal, etc..
Thanks for your help, I'd appreciate any thoughts yall had on the matter.
Cheers
Rachel

I think you'll find that their is plenty of backcountry camping to be had in Europe, though it can be tricky to find sometimes (online). I often found I had to make some calls - but then again this was 5 years ago. I did backcountry camping in Spain, Italy and Germany mostly. You really just have to search for parks/reserves in the areas you'll be traveling to and do a bit of research.
