So life has pulled me in a million directions these last six months and my original idea to travel to 384920483290 different cities in two months must now be modified to a 21 day schedule. What cities would you suggest as a must-see for a 21-day trip like this? I'm aiming for the most exotic/different places (and completely different from each other- i.e. probably not madrid and barcelona both and more like polar opposites amsterdam and venice) and can either ryanair or rail it, whichever's cheaper (because I anticipate trying to see the coolest, most different places will take me country hopping). So: which cities would YOU schedule for the first-timer's 21 day "perhaps only chance to see Europe ever" trip?
Thank you!

I think I'd go for Dublin, Stockholm, Berlin, Krakow (Auschwitz), and Athens. Bits railed, bits RyanAir, bits EasyJet. Exotic and polarized enough ???

Atchoum's suggested a great "off the beaten path" itinerary, that would give you a great sampling of the variety of Europe - I might throw Budapest in there too, for something of south-central Europe. Also, you might want to sample a smaller town in amongst all these larger cities - might I suggest Nafplio, Greece instead of Athens? You can daytrip to archaeological sites on the Pelopennese (so you still see ancient Grecian stuff) but can also enjoy a slightly more relaxed Greek environment. But that would be a lot in three weeks.

Sorry to be a bit boring, but i would throw Rome into that mix. Even though it's an extremely common tourist destination, it's just an absolutley amazing city, what with all the Roman ruins and history and all. But, if you aren't into ruins and history at all then i guess it's ok if you don't go there.
