Hey guys, I was wondeing what to wear while in Europe.
I'm traveling with a friend and we are most likely staying at a Hotel. What kind of clothing do we wear during the day, at night and to clubs? Are Nike Shox a good type of shoe for walking? Do you bring a nice pair of shoes for clubbing? (Keep in mind, we will be there during the summer)
Mike

basicly it depends. are you going to be living out of a backpack(is space limited) or suitcases and Bellhops (unlimited space) if you have a back pack buy a pair of good walking/hiking shoes in a brown color they go good with jeans and look good for clubbing. No matter what you do you are going to look like a tourist. so I suggest just be comfortable wear jeans or cargo shorts during the day with a thin button up or a t-shirt. the most important thing to worry about is being comfortable... their are many other topics on this subject as well do a search and read up on them if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
good luck in your travels.

If space is limited, look for a pair of convertible trousers - Columbia make some that look decent - in a fairly dark colour (the zippers don't stand out as much, and they don't look grubby as fast). Also, a decent pair of walking sandals will go most places by day (maybe keep a pair of socks in your daypack for a nicer restaurant or church) and are a lot cooler and lighter than hiking shoes every day. But you should definitely have a good pair of waterproof hiking/walking shoes (as mentioned above, brown is good) for longer treks and rainy days. My husband often wore his Doc Martens on the road and never had sore or wet feet.
A cotton button-up shirt will get you through most "dressy" things you'll do, something with a pattern will look cleaner longer, and won't show wrinkles as much as a solid colour. Nice jeans are widely accepted (the German cantor at our church wears them to Sunday Mass, with no raised eyebrows), especially if paired with a sport coat, though I wouldn't wear them to the opera.
Depends too on where you'll be - western Europe is pretty stylish but casual, in some parts of eastern Europe they tend to dress a little more formally to clubs etc. If you want to stand out in eastern Europe as an American, wear sweats and a loose tshirt and runners. And prepare to be mugged on your way in or out of the club. And ignored by the prettier girls.

Ha you guys, thanks! I'll use this advice. I don't know if I would want to take my Doc Martens, they tend to be a little heavy. Although, they are the most comfortable shoes I own.
Thanks,
Mike

That's the big trade-off... Maybe I should have stressed that we do a lot of our travelling in Northern Europe in winter, so dry feet are at a premium...
