I'm signed up for fare alerts from SmarterTravel.com - and I get annoyed that about the only fares they ever put up are for Mexico - so you might want to check them out. Every week I get freakin' Mexico airfare deals up the wazoo, but nothing else.

Will hails from BC, so his starting point will most likely be Vancouver (YVR).

I would say check out the websites of the airlines that fly there. And, ahem, one of those is America West Airlines (who I work for). Seriously, I get about a dozen e-mails a day from various airlines, travel services, etc., with their e-savers. Also, check site59.com for package deals, sherman's list via www.budgetravelonline.com, and so on.
It's good you're flexible on what city in Mexico...you should be able to find a decent deal.
Good Luck!

Also try travelzoo.com - they have a lot of fares to Mexico. Try putting together a package through travelocity. We're (hopefully) going to Mexico in February, and I got an okay deal through them even though it's peak season.

If you are Canadian you have to go to www.itravel2000.com
Trust me on this. I get spam faxes from this place everyday at work. So I checked it out, they are actually super cheap. They only charge $5 for a ticket, because you get charged the rest through the airline. So it make no diff to them if you pay $100 or $1000. But inthat same breath they sell more tickets if they are cheaper. So they will show you the cheapest way to travel. I highly suggest trying it. saved me a good chunk of change
