How much per day on average did you spend on your first trip to Europe? At that time how was your currency doing against the European currency?

We spent an average of 35 euros for food, hostels, and most importantly drinking. That was for 5 weeks. Some days it went up to 40 or 50 years and some days it was around 20 euros.
The US dollar to Euro Ratio was around 1.26:1

we spent on average 28 euro, and 20 british pounds per day while in the uk...my friend and i are cheap :P

I spent about $3500 CDN for 5 weeks, including everything. I didn't eat very well...but that's okay, backpackers shouldn't eat well anyway. But I did drink a loooot.

The English Pound murders the Canadian Dollars....my god

I typically spend about 50€ a day in Europe, no matter what the currency is trading at. Sometimes more, occasionally less. That includes hostel, food, drinks, local transport.

I wish!! Nah, I just go for short bursts, so I have a fairly set amount of $$$ budgeted out for the trips. Couldn't quite do that with the month-longer to Oz, but the $50 figure kept happening a LOT. *sigh*

I just got my bank statement back from my trip, On one of the weeks I was spending on average €171 a day.

I got better towards the end but had to come home early. Me knobend, can't money make last.

shit...i'm definetly gonna starve. haha. do you carry alot of cash on you or use credit cards?

Both. Cash is helpful but you dont want to much available(not including your safty stash) because your wallet or money belt might get stolen. Debit cards or credit cards work great. You want spend as much if you use cash and you can acutlly see the money that you are spending. I paid for my hostels, presents and anything with a bigger bill with debit/credit card. But i kept 100 euros on me to spend getting groceries and such. That way a terminal fee of 2 euros, or whatever it was, wasnt added everytime i needed money.

I used ATM all the way. I'm moraly opossed to credit cards.

Well you'll definitely be eating enough bread and cheese.

Generally cash, but I think a lot of hostels prefer credit cards. At least was my experience.

They like credit cards when it comes to pre booking but once your standaing infront of them cash is fine.

I survived on about 35 euro a day and I was careful with my spending. The $AUD was good when I first arrived but then declined against the euro. I didn't really feel the fluctuations that much anyway as I always just withdrew cash from the ATM.

Youre probably right, but after walking around Madrid all day it just seemed right. She was offering foot massages too, but that would have been heinous considering I was wearing sandals.

50 euros wouldnt be too easy, you would still have to watch what you spend and keep tabs. 75 euros would be the easier budget. But that does give you more room than 35 euros which is real tight. It is defeintly alot easier to go over 50 euros than to stay under it.
