Im sure hes probably not the last. Natural selection folks.

British Man Beats HIV With Vitamins

Channel 4 News | November 13 2005

A British man has allegedly become the first person in the world to beat HIV.

A number of newspapers reported that Andrew Stimpson, 25, was diagnosed with the virus in 2002. He later tested negative in 2003.

Chelsea and Westminster Healthcare NHS Trust, which carried out the tests, now want him to undergo more before it can be established how he apparently beat the disease. Mr Stimpson said he did not take any medication for HIV.

A spokeswoman said: "These tests were accurate and they were his, but what we don't know at the moment is why that has happened, and we want him to come back in for more tests. It is potentially a fantastic thing."

Stimpson was tested three times in August 2002 at the Victoria clinic for sexual health in central London.

The results showed he was producing HIV antibodies to fight the killer disease.

He took vitamins and other dietary supplements in the hopes that this might prevent full-blown Aids from developing.

After impressing doctors with his good health, Stimpson was offered a new test in 2003.

It came back negative, and further tests in December 2003 and March 2004 also proved negative.

He told a newspaper: "It was the last thing I expected. I was astonished. I was baffled too.

"I couldn't understand how anyone could cure themselves of HIV . . . I thought it had to be wrong because no one can recover from HIV, it just doesn't happen."

The tests were re-checked by the Chelsea and Westminster Healthcare NHS Trust and they confirmed all the tests had been accurate.

The case has baffled medical experts and they want to study Mr Stimpson in the hope that they can learn more about beating HIV.

Yeah, IF this is true.

Color me still a little skeptical (but willing to be open-minded).

I'm with you two. I think it would be awsome if this is proven true but we'll wait and see.

I am sceptical of the whole thing, especially as the testing centre said that they are more likley to produce a false positive result, so he may never have been HIV positive in the first place. Although on the other hand researchers have found that people (mainly femle prostitutes in Africa) with the 38 alpha gene seem to be imune to HIV even after multiple exposures. (its only present in people who are desendents of survivors of the plague)

Until this guy gets himself retested though I wont put much faith in his sory, he sounds like hes only out to make a quick buck.

I also agree that if this is true, this will create a huge and beneficial buzz in the effort to find a cure for this horrible virus. But I have also read that the man is unwilling to undergo any further testing to prove that he has beaten this virus. Either way, it is a great story and hopefully will one day lead to a cure for all.

HIV is like any disease, its initial strike is deadly, but over time immunities will occur. This chap exercised great health, took vitamins, and it is possible that HIV could have failed. All HIV is, is a virus. Perhaps it was a weakened virus and was able to be defeated, perhaps it was a fluke. Many things are possible, but this doesn't mean that the cure is around the corner.

As for the prostitutes, I had heard about them, and like wise their bodies naturally learned to defend against the disease after so much of it has gone around. It's bound to happen sooner or later.

it isnt just a plain old virud though...it mutates differently then say the flu....there are many starnge things about it.....it doesnt just kick your ass internally it makes you kick your own ass and that is the big problem....i think one day we will figure it out...we already know what cell receptor allows the virus to connect, we know some poeple either do not have that receptor, or they do not let HIV attach to it, but making a vaccine or cure from that is uber difficult. it is a matter of time, but who knows how long.

I heard about that carried over imunity to decendents of plague surviours. I've also heard of babys that should have been born positive because their mother was but turned out to be immune.

Evolutions working on the cure for us.
