Day 1 - 11 am. Sucks.
Anyhow, Jake and I made the decision yesterday to mutually give up the habit. We've been talking about it for a while in a "future" sense, but finally I'm like "so, you ready?" I know you can't force someone into it, so I wanted to wait till he was actually agreeing because he agreed and not to shut me up. Surprisingly, he said yes though. So today is doom's day.
Anyhow, wish us luck.

^whoa, what a coincidense! two TPunks quit on the same day.
yeah jamie, i embarked on that same journey last summer (2004). i had smoked since i was 15. i had initially tried to quit smoking at the beginning of the summer but didn't succeed until september. after i first met anthon (he's never been a smoker) he decided to come to chicago to spend a month before shipping off to Belize. i noticed from time spent with him before, that every once in awhile when i smoked and we were drinking, he'd smoke too. i couldn't have this. so i quit while he was out in chicago with his support, i actually made it a month. quite a hard task indeed and the battle was still not over after a month, but it was easier, and it got easier everyday from that point on. once you feel like you've accomplished something, you just don't want to throw it away. that's what keeps me going. i just past the year mark. remember, (this is what helped me) that this addiction is more mind than body. you are the one that talked yourself into it, now all you have to do is talk yourself out of it hour by hour at first and then day by day. everytime i thought about starting again (which was about every 15 minutes at first) i just reminded myself, that that is just habit talking and that i could do this. it's all about conditioning.
anyhow, i AM so with you both on this. if you need to talk at all, PM me. good luck...i think what you two are doing is great!

see I can chain smoke a whole pack and then not even think about cigs for a month or two until I am at a bar and someone offers me one... Guess I am a lucky duck!
I did buy this sweet arse pipe the other day. It's freakin awesome. It's a churchwarden, which is like freakin Gandalf from Lord of the Rings.
I am a pimp.

more power to ya. I want to blacken my lungs for a while yet. Besides, beer and cigs go so well together, I'd probably have to give both up.. I figure it will happen the first time Im knocked up..

One of my roomates last year was quitting smoking. Oh my god. It was my most stressful time as well. I had to fully support her all the time and felt that if she took a puff then I somehow failed as a friend! Well she lasted about three weeks then she started again.
It was hilarious though because we worked together as well so one day she actually forgot to put the patch on . she went craaaaaaazzzzzzyyy...Like double PMS.
Serious props to all of you who are quitting (or have quit)..

If I double my alcohol intake, does that negate the quitter stigma???
Yay travelguy!!! We can do it!!
Thanks SD!! I know we can do it.. It's just a matter of doing it... Jake's been a bit cranky today, but holding strong. A coworker of his quit recently, so they can band together. We did quit once for six months a few years ago.

Haha I always used to say that, but when I was young(er) and naive®, I thought we'd have kids young.... Now I figure I need a new reason to quit and having my lungs hurt frequently is a good one.

I've spent my day off loafing and cleaning. And its 1AM and I have no smokes. I'm going to the Farms store. I did find $10 in some jeans I haven't worn in a while...

so lets talk about our favorite smokes shall we?
I'm partial to the organic American Spirits (my Natrualpathic doctor told me that if i did smoke to smoke these)
And if I am feeling like something a little more smooth I will grab a pack of filtered lucky strikes. Can't go wrong with a lucky...
Hope this is helping jamie

For some reason American Spirits have a weird reaction in my throat. Sort of a swelling thing. I burn through camels like theres no tomorrow. And there shan't be if I keep it up... tho right now I have marlboro 27's in my purse because they were buy one get one free...

Camel Lights are mine of choice. But if I were to rattle off the brands I used to smoke...
Marlboro: Cowboy Killers, Medium, Lights, Ultra Lights (when i wanted to quit once)
Parliament Lights (same as the ultra lights)
Camel Filters, Wides, Lights (current favorite)
Occasionally I would smoke hand-rolled cigs, but the effort is too much. Used to smoke whatever my buddies would steal from their folks, too, since mine didn't smoke.
I've also smoked Dunhills and Nat Shermans, but those are VERY expensive.
One thing I've never smoked regularly are menthols. Never did like them. Its like smoking a pack of Spearmint gum...
And I got into smoking by dipping Skoal. Loved me some long cut mint. But that was in Middle School and High School...
