I stayed at a wonderful place in summer. I tried to describe it in Beergal's post, but wasn't very specific...sorry! Anyway, did a bit more research and it is called "Hotel Antico Capon" in Campo Santa Margherita. The reception is in a big yellow building, and from there you'll be sent to various apartments. It was a little expensive for what we got (35 euros for a single bed in a 4 bed room, tiny bathroom down the hall that was always full), but included coffee and a pastry at this little cafe in the square. You can find details for it at travelpunkand I think it might have a link of its own. Hope that helps!

Antico Capon is not too shabby! For the extra ten or so Euros difference you would have saved by staying on the Island will made up by Vaporetto tickets!

True, that places was awful.
But did you meet Rafael?
He was deeply offened when I bought a pizza at the place next door.
He told me, "no, you cannot eat that pizza here"
Then he gave me a free dinner just so I would not eat that pizza there.
Apperently he does not like the guy who owns the pizza place.

Post pics!
