I'm leaving soon for Africa. I'm thinking of hiring a sleeping bag in Moshi for use on Kilimanjaro. Basically, it will save me unnecessarily carrying a 3-4 season bag for the rest of my travels. Does anyone know how easy it is, how much it is likely to cost and what kind of quality I can expect?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I wasnt even aware you could rent a sleeping bag?

Well it looks like most organized tours and safaris allow sleeping bag rentals. Is your trip on ur own or through a tour?

I thought you were referring to a tired old lady. Har.

Not sure if you'd be able to do that or not. You may want to look into getting a sleeping bag anyway, just in case. There are some that fold up pretty damn small and are rated for double-digit below-zero temps. Good luck!

Check this out as it has packing recommendations for just that.

Quote:
* It is recommended that trekkers bring their own personal sleeping bag as
bags available may not be warm enough. A four seasons sleeping bag is
recommended.

We purchased lightweight sleeping bags (only rated for 40 degrees celcius) for about 15 or 20 USD. The super tiny lightweight but warm ones are usually kind spendy (not sure if you need to save money or what). One thing that helped with ours was having an emergency blanket (picked up at Wal Mart for a few $$ - very cheap). Kept us warm sleeping on the very windy coast of Ireland.

Good luck and have fun in Africa.
