i applied for a job about three weeks ago just to stop my mum nagging me to go and get a job while im home for the summer. So today i went for the assesment day and much to my horror i actually got the job!! Its only a temp position until i go back to uni at the end of september working for a student accommodation office, the money isnt too bad either its just over £6 an hour and its full time. I suppose its a good opportunity because it means now i can save to come to canada to visit a firend that recently moved there.
Anyone else get a job to take them over the summer?

Not exactly just for the summer, but I'm kinda waiting on a job offer that would be a *major* step up career-wise and an approximately 25% salary increase. *shrug*

Yeah I picked one up working construction at the company my mother works for. Not a great job, but I only have a month left so I am happy.

With all the extra cash...you could start a home for wayward travelpunks.

I got a 4 month internship in Human Resources for Goodwill Toronto. Good pay and provides me with experience before I've graduated.

I went from being gainfully unemployed in June to having three jobs...
1. Apprenticeship under a Certified Master Chef. Heavy honor.
2. Off-site catering company utility player. Fun, since the scenery changes a lot
3. Potential Sous Chef/Chef de Partie at the Annapolis Yacht Club. I'm doing a "Beyond Boiling Point" styled turnaround with my old chef and mentor there this week and next, its likely i'll get offered a job FT when the new Exec Chef arrives in two weeks. I'm not sure I want it, but if they'll let me work three-12 hour shifts and one swinger (4-6 hours) a week, I may be able to make it happen.
I can maintain the apprenticeship, and still pick up catering gigs. But, summer is running short, and class starts back up in September. This is gonna put me a long way towards saving for the Italy externship. If I get FT with benefits at the Yacht Club I could hit $35K a year, plus the extra $1000 a month from the other two jobs combined... i'd be killing myself working, but having the extra padding in the wallet would be nice... ugh

I've worked during the summer ever since the beggining of highschool, so don't feel bad - you're not the only one doing it. So far, among others, I've been a camp councellor, a first aid person, a sailing/canoeing instructor, a canoe and kayak club boathouse staff, I worked at a print shop and I ran a delivery truck... Now I have a 9-5 full time career, which supports my travels.

Yeah, its my major... and career. Guess I'm fortunate to work in my major's field, right?\
And BTW, this yacht club thing is lucrative... but frustrating. I feel my hair turning gray and falling out just thinking about work tomorrow!

He took the test at the CIA? Very cool.
as for the hair thing, might want to keep an eye on that, if your hair is ever found in food while taking the test you automatically fail and are out the 10 grand
